Your QAPI Plan shouldn’t be just a binder on a shelf — it’s a living, ongoing process that should evolve with resident needs and facility trends. January is the perfect time to review last year’s data, evaluate the effectiveness of existing PIPs, and determine whether new priorities should be established.
Start by examining trends:
- Were there repeat issues in falls, infections, or grievances?
- Did any PIPs stall or lose momentum?
- Are there areas where staff need additional training or support?
Next, evaluate whether your PIPs are truly measurable. Vague goals lead to vague outcomes – and a lot of staff frustration. Strong PIPs include clear targets, defined interventions, and consistent monitoring.
Finally, engage your IDT. QAPI is not a one‑department initiative — it requires collaboration, communication, and shared accountability. There’s always room for a micro-PIP as needed, but an effective plan needs input from more than just a few individuals. See you tomorrow for Day 3 of the 12 Days of Compliance!
