One month into the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Risk-Based Survey (RBS) rollout, most nursing homes still don’t know where they stand.
CMS began the nationwide rollout on September 8, 2026, in eligible facilities as state survey schedules allow. Based on June 2026 data, CMS estimates that about 12% of nursing homes (1,560 of 14,682) currently qualify. If your facility is in the other 88%, this session is for you.
The timing is deliberate. On September 29, CMS revised its RBS memo (QSO-26-14-NH) to move the public list of qualifying facilities from September 30 to October 8, and the high-performing facility icon will start appearing on Nursing Home Care Compare that day. October 8 is the day families and referral partners can start seeing which facilities made the list.

Some criteria, like the Health Inspection Score percentile cutoff, are relative to other facilities in your state, so not every gap can be closed on your own timeline. That’s why we’ll focus on what you can control.
