The latest update from the National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care in Nursing Homes shows that nursing homes have continued to decrease the percentage of long-stay nursing home residents who are on antipsychotic drugs. The Partnership, which started in 2011, has found that there has been a decrease of 21.7% since the program was started, reducing the national prevalence of antipsychotic drug use in nursing homes to less than 19%. CMS Region 1 and Region 9 (27.1% and 29.9%, respectively) have shown the largest reduction in use, with CMS Regions 5, 7 and 8 showing the smallest reduction (17-18%).
