NYS OMIG launches compliance webinar series

The New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) has created a nine-part webinar series on the state’s mandatory compliance program. The purpose of these compliance programs is to organize provider resources to quickly and efficiently resolve payment discrepancies and detect inaccurate billings, as well as provide a system of checks and balances to reduce recurrences.

The first webinar outlines the eight elements of mandatory compliance programs, identifies who needs to have this type of program in place, and explains where the programs are applicable. These programs will be applicable to:

  • Billings
  • Payments
  • Medical Necessity & Quality of Care
  • Governance
  • Mandatory Reporting
  • Credentialing
  • Other Risk Areas that are – or Should – with Due Diligence Be Identified

The next webinar in the series will review the first element of compliance programs, which is to have written policies and procedures in place that describe compliance expectations as embodied in a code of conduct or code of ethics.
