CMS has issued an S&C letter reinforcing the requirements for completing MDS discharge assessments when a resident is transferred from a certified bed to a non-certified bed in a skilled nursing facility (SNF). The letter states that discharge assessments are required for residents that are transferred to non-certified beds housed under the same certified facility. Failure to complete discharge assessments could result in inaccurate survey citations, inaccurate Quality Measures and could impact discharge planning.
