CMS proposes overhaul of long term care regulations

While we all knew that regulatory changes were probably underway, the release of a 400+ page proposal of sweeping changes to long term care regulations was probably not anticipated. On Monday, July 13, 2015, the Obama administration released a document that takes into account the quality of care being provided to nursing home residents and looks at their quality of life. The proposed changes to the regulations cover most of the existing regulatory categories, but there are also some new additions, including information on QAPI.

Over the next few days, CMS Compliance Group will be reviewing these proposed changes in depth, along with their rationale, on our blog. Check back daily to ensure you don’t miss any information on these potential nursing home compliance changes, or subscribe to the CMSCG blog on the sidebar of this page.

View the proposed rule here. It will be posted on the Federal Register on July 16, 2015 and a comment period will be opened.
