On June 29th, CMS released an update on its new Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiative. The memorandum provides several key points, including that it has released its Nursing Home Quality Improvement Questionnaire and will be collecting data through the end of September. As we blogged about in May, your team should be focusing on getting familiar with the Five Elements of QAPI so that when the QAPI tools are released by CMS, that you will be more familiar with the initiative.
According to the statement provided to the U.S. Senate Committee on Aging by the Office of Clinical Standards and Quality at HHS, CMS is full-speed ahead with implementing QAPI nationwide. Alice Bonner, Director for the Division of Nursing Homes, noted that beginning in August 2012, an online resource library and website containing training materials and resources will be available to all nursing home providers, regulators and advocates to provide important information about QAPI and its implementation.
