OIG to examine post-hospital skilled nursing care in newly added report

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) added a new item to its Work Plan in March, “Post-Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility Care Provided to Dually Eligible Beneficiaries.” This report will identify whether the post-hospital SNF care provided to these beneficiaries met the level of care requirements by looking at whether the SNF level of care was physician-certified, the condition treated at the SNF was a condition for which the beneficiary received inpatient services or if it was a condition that arose while the beneficiary was receiving care in a SNF, if daily skilled care was required, if the services provided were reasonable/necessary for treating the illness/injury, and if improper Medicare payments were made on the claims that will be reviewed.

This report is expected in FY 2020. Read the full Work Plan item description on the OIG website.
