OIG to review nursing home staffing levels and CMS oversight

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) added a new item to its Work Plan in February, “Nursing Facility Staffing: Reported Levels and CMS Oversight.” The OIG will be issuing two reports related to nursing home staffing, the first of which will provide information on nursing staffing levels as reported via Payroll-Based Journal (PBJ). After that, the Agency will issue a report that looks at the effort made by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure that PBJ data is accurate and improve the quality of care being provided in nursing homes. The expected issue date for these reports is FY 2020.
